When a client brings a Ferrari 812 Superfast into the studio, you expect to see automotive perfection. After all, this is a masterpiece of Italian engineering, sporting a massive 6.5-litre V12 engine that pushes out 789 brake horsepower.

But when this brand-new “20-plate” Ferrari arrived at Top Car Detailing, it was clear that factory-fresh doesn’t always mean flawless.

Despite being straight from the dealership, the paintwork was severely held back by widespread factory and transport defects. Take a look at our full video walkthrough of the transformation below, and read on to see exactly how we turned this supercar’s paint into a literal mirror finish.

The Inspection: Uncovering the Defects

The first step in any high-end detail is a thorough wash and decontamination, followed by a strict inspection under specialized studio lighting. By changing the spectrum of light across the Ferrari’s bodywork, we revealed the harsh reality of its finish:

  • Widespread Swirl Marks & Holograms: Compounding trails left behind from hasty factory polishing.
  • Burnishing Marks: Deep, hazy marring on the rear quarter panels.
  • Thin Paintwork: Like many modern Ferraris, the paint on this 812 was incredibly thin, requiring extreme precision and constant digital paint depth monitoring before a machine even touched the surface.

To safely correct paint this delicate, there is no room for error. It requires selecting the exact right combination of machine speed, pad density, and compound cut to pull out the defects without compromising the clear coat.

The Correction: Over 20 Hours of Machine Polishing

True paint correction is a painstaking process. Working in a strict, careful sequence starting with the bonnet, we spent many hours multi-stage machine polishing the vehicle.

Because high-end cutting compounds generate a significant amount of dust, executing this safely means gearing up with respirators and goggles to keep the studio environment pristine.

Once the heavy correction work was complete, we refined the entire body with a jewelers-grade finishing polish to achieve a deep, flawless diamond-cut finish. The result? Before we even touched a bottle of ceramic coating, the depth of gloss and clarity in the Rosso Corsa paint was already jaw-dropping.

Ultimate Long-Term Protection: The Kamikaze Collection

With the paint perfectly corrected, it was time to lock in that finish with a multi-layered ceramic coating. For the Ferrari lineup, we heavily rely on the world-renowned Kamikaze Collection for ultimate protection and gloss.

  1. Base Layer: We laid down a foundation coat of Kamikaze Miyabi Coat to provide brilliant clarity and a hard, protective barrier.
  2. Top Layer: We followed this with Kamikaze Zipang Coat. Zipang is a phenomenal, state-of-the-art coating that drastically darkens the paintwork, provides insane water behavior, and offers minor self-healing characteristics.
  3. The Final Stage: To push the boundaries of detailing even further, a final two-step top coating process was applied using strict respirator and glove safety protocols.

Total Vehicle Protection
A supercar detailing package isn’t just about the body panels. We extended our precision protection across the entire vehicle:

  • Wheels & Calipers: Fully coated front and back, including the inner barrels, using Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour to repel harsh brake dust.
  • Engine Bay & Trim: The plastics housing that incredible 6.5L V12 engine were treated with Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer to prevent fading.
  • Wheel Arches: The inner linings were fully treated with hydrophobic repellents to ensure road grime washes off effortlessly.

The Finished Result: A Supercar Worthy of the Name

Pulling the 812 Superfast out into the natural daylight, the transformation was staggering. From a swirled, dulled finish out of the showroom to arguably the sharpest, best-looking Ferrari 812 Superfast in the UK. The paint now acts as a complete mirror, reflecting the sky with absolute clarity.

Every curve of this car is an aerodynamic marvel—from the aggressive front scoops to the active bypass intakes underneath that open up at 112 mph to force the car onto the tarmac. A machine that can do 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds deserves a finish that looks just as fast.
